PELIKAN M800 (old style) Xuan Wu Asia Limited Edition 888 Fountain Pen (#120/888). Tribute to the Chinese god of the Northern Sphere. This Pelikan 2001 Xuan Wu limited edition fountain pen is the fourth in the M800 series of the' Asia' limited edition pens and is # 120 of only 888 pens. All acrylic parts are a marbled dark green and the barrel section is sleeved in a repoussé (toledo) overlay embossed with the picture of a tortoise and a snake, described in ancient Chinese lore as being from the bowels of the God Xuan Wu, earthbound to do evil and later subdued. This picture is in 24 karat foil portrayed on a dark textured background.

It has a heavy gold-over-sterling (vermeil) clip and all gold accents. It is a piston-fill pen with visible ink reserve, and is fitted with a Pelikan two-tone 18 karat solid gold Medium (M) nib. This pen is mint in Oriental carved burl wood box, in cloth bag, in sleeve (worn), in box with all papers. This Limited Edition of Xuan Wu continues the distinguished tradition of our installments of Golden Dynasty (Dragon), Golden Pheonix, White Tiger in chronicling China's great legends. According to Chinese mythology, there are four auspicious celestial animals: dragon, bird, tiger and turtle.

As highly revered deities they are also the zodiac signs for the four cardinal directions. With Xuan Wu Pelikan shows the deity of the northern sphere, the element of water. According to its constellation, it resembles the mythical creature which is part snake and part turtle. Respected for valor and martial skill, it taverses heaven and earth and is venerated by all things living.

It exorcises evil and banishes transgressors so that the good may live in peace and good health. Xuyan Wu, is also a water diety. It is said, from the legend of old, that if one were to possess a rare tortoise, it will bestow immense fortune on its keeper.
